Resolved Question: Is 40k a year enough to move out?
I am 22 years old and I am sales rep for the cell phone company Sprint. I make 40k a year and I am wondering if this enough for me to move out? I don't see my self going back to school and I am not a construction worker so I feel retail/management is where I should be. I am nervous on how I will turn out when I get older and it really bothers me. What would everyone suggest. Should I stick wis this until I advance to management work there for awhile and then look for another management job that pays better? I'm 21 years old, I'd like to up and move to Germany. I have a basic understanding of the language (present/past/future conjugations, no Konjunktiv or anything else, simple vocabulary) and I know I'd need a passport. Hi. So, we are thinking of buying a house and doing a concrete stain on the slab. Currently, it has nasty, flea-ridden BLUE carpet that deserves to be burned to ashes in some spectacular fashion. Anyway, we've been discussing the various pros and cons of wood flooring verses tile. I work in construction management and a lot of our retail clients have been doing a concrete stain on their floors. So, I looked it up and it turns out that it is possible to get the faux look of marble, tile, or anything else we want (although I would want to stick to tile, natural stone or marble). Well, not one single website I looked at offers an average cost per square foot. Has anybody done any concrete stain in their home? If so, roughly how much did it cost? This is for about 1200 square feet in the house. Oh, and yes, I have emailed several companies asking for rough estimate and have not gotten a single response back yet. moreResolved Question: Is success genetic, or learned?
I often find myself wondering why some people can be so talented, or create success so easily, while others always have to struggle for their aspirations. Specifically, I refer to academics, though I suspect this argument can be applied to a variety of situations. For example, I did not go to university after high school, and nowadays earn a modest salary in a middle management position in the retail sector. However, a girl that I graduated high school with is now a resident in an emergency ward, for a large, metropolitan hospital. We were friends in school, and whenever I see her now (as sporadic as that may be), I can't help but think how similar we are. We share the same opinions, sense of humour, and personal interests. So what was it that made this girl, or anyone for that matter, attempt one of the most challenging degrees possible (medicine), and go on to achieve a career that they relish. Is there something inside us that we are born with that determines how our lives will turn out? How can some people always be good at what they do, and go on to become doctors, lawyers, or elite athletes, while others will always be labourers, or truck drivers. I am in no way suggesting that one profession is more noble than another, or that certain professions are less intelligent than others. I simply wonder how and when in a person's life, do they develop the skills that will propel them through their studies and career, while others will always wallow in mediocrity. People always seem to think that successful parents will have successful children. Is this the case? Will a doctor married to a pilot raise their child differently to a plumber married to a cashier? Will the child of a lawyer become a lawyer? Is a bricklayer's child destined for a construction job? As these, and my original question suggest, do we always have have the tools we need for success, or are they things we pick up along the way? moreResolved Question: What can I do to stomp out these rumors?

I am both the youngest and the only woman in a management role in the 50 year history of the company. The Senior Vice President has a very obvious distain for me and he has taken every opportunity in the past 5 years to embarrass me and get me into hot water. He is 45 years old and has worked for the company for 25 years. 1) About 4 years ago in response to an email announcing me as employee of the month, he wrote back to the owner and 3 other upper managers that I was sleeping with another employee. 2) There is a rumor going around that I had sex with two men at the same time. I told the HR manager about this and she laughed and did nothing. 3) At the company Christmas luncheon that I was unable to attend, he packaged some sex gag gifts and gave them to a male coworker of mine and signed my name to the card. ... .... In response to this, he sent an “apology” email to me that stated that everyone knew it was a gag, which is a lie. This employee called me last night and told me about it. He also told me about a lot of other rumors that he heard about me from multiple sources from yard help to senior management. He plans to visit one of the retail locations that I manage today for a grand tour and then will take me to lunch. When he gets here should I introduce him to my staff or should I just walk around with him as if he is a client? If I do formally introduce him to my coworkers should I introduce him as my friend or boyfriend? Because I’m in a management role, I keep my personal life out of the workplace as much as possible. I’ve never even mentioned that I have a boyfriend and it will be big news that my staff will whisper about for weeks. I have an art degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2002). The concentration is in costume design and construction. I have worked as a visual manager and retail manager (Banana Republic) and Store Manager (Charlotte Russe) for 4 years. In both of these cases I won several awards for management, merchandising, and sales goals. I love fashion, business, people motivation, and merchandising. I did not like the 50-60 hr work weeks (with no extra money I was salary, I don't mind working hard), constantly dealing with shoplifters, ridiculous hours (no one, even at Christmas time, shops at 8 on a Sun. morning in the South) and constant turnover (holiday help etc...) that you had to retrain. I have many interests such as computers, books, art, hiking, volunteer work, debate, socializing. Because of my varying interests I can't figure out what I want to do with my life.
